NJHS Membership Requirements

Students who are selected for the National Junior Honor Society are expected to maintain the high standards of scholarship, character, leadership, service, and citizenship throughout their membership.

GPA Requirement
Members must maintain a minimum 3.75 GPA to remain in good standing and continue as active members of NJHS.

Academic Accountability
Members are responsible for maintaining strong academic performance throughout the school year. Students may be required to obtain teacher grade slips or academic progress checks to verify that they are staying on top of their coursework and meeting NJHS academic expectations.

Character, Leadership & Citizenship
NJHS members are expected to demonstrate strong character, responsible behavior, leadership, and good citizenship both in and out of the classroom. Members should serve as positive examples for other students and represent Houston Middle School and NJHS appropriately.

Community Service
Service is an important part of NJHS membership. Members are expected to participate in community service throughout the school year. Houston Middle School NJHS typically provides several opportunities for students to participate in service projects and events during the year.

Maintaining Membership
NJHS membership is an ongoing responsibility. Students who do not maintain the academic, behavioral, leadership, or service expectations of the organization may be placed on probation or have their membership reviewed.

Expectations of NJHS Members

NJHS members are expected to uphold the five pillars of the National Junior Honor Society: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship.

Scholarship: Take responsibility for your education by completing assignments, preparing for assessments, and maintaining strong academic performance.

Service: Participate in NJHS service projects and look for opportunities to help your school and community.

Leadership: Set a positive example, take initiative, contribute ideas, and be willing to help when needed.

Character: Demonstrate honesty, respect, responsibility, and kindness in your interactions with others.

Citizenship: Represent Houston Middle School and NJHS positively by making responsible choices and contributing to a positive school community.
