Houston Administration
Principal

Hello,
My name is Jon Gilcrease, and I have had the privilege of serving Hobbs Municipal Schools for the past 30 years. I began my teaching career at Houston when it was a Junior High serving grades 7–9. I taught at Houston for four years and then spent twelve years at Hobbs High School. During my time at Houston, I coached boys’ basketball and was honored to win two Border Conference Championships as the 9th-grade coach. Throughout my teaching career, I taught a wide range of mathematics courses, from 7th grade Math through Calculus. I also served as an AP Lead Teacher for Hobbs Municipal Schools while teaching at Hobbs High, worked as an AP Calculus Grader, and served as a trainer for the College Board’s Spring Board program.
I later became the Assistant Principal at Houston for four years and have spent the remainder of my career as Principal. I am truly blessed to work alongside an exceptional staff that takes pride in providing a high-quality education for our students. Our campus was awarded the Promising Practices PLC School designation in 2025—an honor held by only one secondary school in New Mexico, as the remaining schools recognized are at the elementary level.
Our mission is to be the premiere middle school in the nation. My door is always open should you wish to visit or discuss any questions or concerns.
Assistant Principal
Hello,
My name is Drew Rickman and I currently serve as the Assistant Principal of Houston Middle School. I am an avid outdoorsman and lifelong learner who has brought that passion into the classroom teaching 6th-12th grade sciences for 13 years. Sensing I could help even more people, I chose to enter into administration and joined the Houston team 5 years ago. Houston Middle School is full of passionate teachers who ignite student’s interests and engage all learners. I am blessed to be a part of a team who continually strive for success.
