AVID
At Houston Middle School, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is more than a class—it is an opportunity for students to discover their potential, build confidence, and prepare for a successful future.
Our AVID program helps students develop the academic and life skills they need to succeed in middle school, high school, college, and future careers. Through Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR), students strengthen their study habits, learn to advocate for themselves, set meaningful goals, and take ownership of their education.
AVID students also explore college and career opportunities, leadership, community involvement, goal setting, organization, teamwork, and relationship building while being part of a supportive community that encourages them to challenge themselves and grow.
At Houston Middle School, we believe success begins with helping students see what is possible. Our goal is to create a culture where students feel supported, challenged, and inspired to dream big and are given the tools to turn those dreams into achievable goals.
